Can I use a footprint with the Alto TR2 Plus?

Sea to Summit sells a compatible footprint (sold separately). However, many users use a generic piece of Tyvek or polycryo because the tent floor is relatively thin. The footprint is not required for setup.

Can I attach the inner tent alone without the fly?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the inner tent can be set up by itself using the pole and stakes. This gives a bug-net-only shelter for star gazing. However, the pole sleeve is attached to the inner, so the fly is not needed for structure.

What is the maximum pole length for the Alto TR2 Plus?

Accepted Answer

The DAC Featherlite pole is about 124 inches (315 cm) when assembled. It comes in four sections and folds to roughly 16 inches (40 cm). The pole can be replaced from Sea to Summit or any outdoor shop that sells DAC poles.

Does the Alto TR2 Plus require trekking poles for setup?

No, it comes with a single DAC Featherlite pole that forms the main arch. You do not need trekking poles, but you will need stakes (8-10 recommended) to tension the tent properly.

Is there enough room for two people with gear inside?

Accepted Answer

The Plus version has a 50-inch width, so two people can sleep comfortably, but gear inside is cramped. Most users store gear in the 9.5 sq ft vestibule. The inner tent has no dedicated gear pockets except for a small mesh pocket near the door.

How does the tent perform in heavy wind?

With proper staking and tension, it holds up well in moderate winds (up to 25 mph). The low profile and tension ridge help shed wind. In strong winds, the single-wall design can flap, and users recommend adding extra stakes on the windward side.

After a few practice runs, setup takes about 5–7 minutes. First-time users may take 10–12 minutes. The pole clips are color-coded to match the fly, making it easier.

The tent comes with 8 Easton Nano stakes (aluminum). Most users find them good for soft to moderate ground. For hard or rocky soil, you may want to upgrade to heavier titanium or steel stakes.
