How We Review Products

Our independent, data-driven research methodology — and exactly where our information comes from.

100% Independent
Real Retailer Data
Verified Customer Feedback
Transparent Methodology

Our 6-Step Review Process

Every product we cover goes through this research process so recommendations stay accurate, comparable, and current.

STEP 1

Market Research

We identify products worth covering by analyzing search demand, sales rank, category trends, and what shoppers actually ask about.

STEP 2

Data Collection

We pull complete manufacturer specifications, verified customer ratings and reviews, and current pricing directly from major retailer data.

STEP 3

Feedback Analysis

We synthesize large volumes of verified customer feedback to find recurring strengths, complaints, and reliability signals that spec sheets can't show.

STEP 4

Comparative Scoring

Products are scored against direct competitors using consistent, category-specific criteria — performance, build, features, usability, and value.

STEP 5

AI-Assisted Writing, Editorial Oversight

We use AI to help turn structured research into readable reviews at scale, with editorial processes and automated checks to catch errors. We never invent testing we haven't done.

STEP 6

Ongoing Updates

Prices, availability, and ratings are refreshed on a schedule, and reviews are revisited as new products launch or existing ones change.

Our Core Principles

Editorial Independence

Manufacturers cannot pay for coverage, placement, or scores. Our rankings are driven by the same data for every product, whether or not it earns us a commission.

We're reader-supported: when you buy through our links we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you.

Verifiable Sources

Star ratings and review counts shown on our product pages come from verified retailer customer reviews — and we label them that way, so you can check the source yourself.

Prices come from live retailer data and are subject to change; always confirm the current price before purchasing.

Honest About Our Methods

We don't claim hands-on lab testing we haven't done. Our strength is breadth: structured analysis of specs, customer experience data, and pricing across far more products than any lab could test.

When we get something wrong, we fix it — corrections and updates are reflected in the "last updated" date on each review.

How We Score Products

Our scoring combines spec benchmarks, customer-feedback analysis, and price data into consistent category ratings.

100

Overall Score (0-100)

The overall score weighs the factors that matter most to typical buyers in each category:

Performance (35%)
Specs and reported real-use performance vs. competitors
Build Quality (20%)
Materials, durability signals from long-term owner feedback
Features (20%)
Functionality and versatility
User Experience (15%)
Ease of use and setup, per verified customer reports
Value (10%)
Price-to-performance ratio at current prices
$$$

Value Score

Our value score specifically evaluates whether a product is worth its price. A high-performing expensive product might have a lower value score than a good budget option that exceeds expectations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you physically test every product?

No — and we won't pretend otherwise. We cover far more products than any lab could test. Instead, we do deep research: full spec analysis, synthesis of verified customer reviews (which reflect thousands of real owners' experience), and live price tracking. Where a claim would require physical testing to make, we don't make it.

Do you accept products or payment from manufacturers?

No. We have no relationships with manufacturers. They cannot pay for coverage, placement, or scores, and they can't remove products from our comparisons.

How do you make money?

We earn affiliate commissions when readers purchase products through our links, at no extra cost to you. Commission rates do not affect how products are scored or ranked — the same data-driven criteria apply to every product.

Where do the star ratings on product pages come from?

Star ratings and review counts are aggregated from verified retailer customer reviews (primarily Amazon) and are labeled as such. Our own editorial verdicts — pros, cons, who should buy — are separate and clearly marked.

How often do you update reviews?

Pricing and availability data refresh on a schedule, and reviews are revisited when new competitive products launch or existing ones change. You'll see the "last updated" date on each review.

What if I disagree with a review?

We welcome feedback! If you've had a different experience with a product, please let us know through our Q&A section or contact form. Your input helps us improve our research and may prompt a review update.
